about

Thank you for listening to this album supplicant by strange caffeine. The ideas that would grow into some of songs in this collection were sparked nearly two decades ago, kindled, smoldered and nursed for years. It means a lot to have you hear them.

Thanks to Chris, Wyatt and Rick and Rich, and to Adam, Seth and Matt, thanks to Thane and Neal and Bob and Varnit from back in a different life. Thanks to Max, Faris, Tristan, Steve, James and Zach, for all jamming on these songs over the years. Thanks to Chris for inspiration on Track 13, we did indeed work on this song in a basement on a hill. Thanks to John and Toby for putting up with our noise. Thanks to Joe and a different Chris for the feedback and encouragement.

Thanks to Melissa, who heard some of these songs played poorly literally thousands of times, and to Paul and Ellie who say they like some of this, and thanks to Jeff and Hilary. You are all in these songs.

If you can, please support graphic artists and other creative people. Make art of all kinds unrestricted and free.

Thank you for listening.

All guitars, bass and vocals were recorded by strange caffeine, in a basement, often late at night. Additional strings on Tracks 1, 3, 6, 9 and 14 were produced using LABS, a wonderful and free virtual instrument suite from Spitfire Audio. Most of the Drums on this record were purchased from We Sound Human, an excellent music resource for non-electronic music production. Additional drum samples and software were used from Ugritone, Circles, Cult, Touchloops and Unity. Track 15 features PUNK ME 1-4 by alividlife, uploaded to looperman.com on 12/03/2010. All tracks were mixed and mastered by strange caffeine.

Track 14 contains lyrics and melody derived from "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," written in 1907 by Ada R. Habershon, a work in the public domain.

Any instance of cryptomnesia is unintentional and should be interpreted as respectful homage to the great musicians that touch us all.

Cover art was generated with AI using Stable Diffusion v1.5 and the prompt "Collage art with images torn from perfume ads and fashion catalogs. She stands at the peak, arching her beautiful body, facing away, we see her back, stretching up into the starry expanse of space. Constellations, ringed planets. Illuminated from within by a million exploding sparks of creation." What would you paint?
